The 2022 Golden Globe Awards
And the winner is: Hacks and Mare of Easttown take home Golden Globes
You didn’t nod off and miss it. The 2022 Golden Globe Awards was in strict quarantine this year due to behind the scenes controversy that left the show without a broadcast TV partner or publicists. There were no stars, no press and there were no parties. Instead, each award winner was announced via Twitter and a live blog.
All of that doesn’t diminish the talent and skill of the winners, or the quality of the shows and movies nominated, which went on air between 1 January and 31 December 2021 and gave us a blissful escape from a pretty crazy year.
The judges raised 10s across the board for Mj Rodriguez, who became the first transgender woman to win a Golden Globe, scooping Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama for her role as Blanca Evangelista in the drama series Pose, which focuses on New York’s drag ball culture during the 1980s and early 1990s.
On the TV series side, Succession scooped the big awards for Best Drama, Best Actor for Jeremy Strong and Best Supporting Actress for Sarah Snook. Meanwhile Jean Smart’s win for Hacks – which also won Best Television Series, Musical Or Comedy – and Kate Winslet’s win for Mare of Easttown will come as no surprise to viewers who caught them in action on M-Net (DStv channel 101).
