This midweek round of Serie A action opens with three matches on Tuesday 26 October, the pick of which sees AC Milan welcome Torino to the San Siro. The Rossoneri have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign and look very capable title contenders, but they must be able to cope with a busy schedule and increased intensity compared to the last campaign.
“We are growing and we absolutely must continue like this,” said Milan manager Stefano Pioli. “For two years this team has been playing in a certain way and obtaining important results. But we must remain humble.”
He added, “The Champions League is helping us, it made us understand that we need to link intensity and quality; I too have grown, with the club that supported me. We have the same motivations and ambitions: Napoli are ahead of us, Juve will return, Inter…”
Wednesday 27 October sees a further six matches, including Juventus at home to Sassuolo, Atalanta away to Sampdoria, Internazionale travelling to take on Empoli at the Carlo Castellani Stadium, and a potential thriller between Lazio and Fiorentina – two teams who have been amongst the most attack-minded in Italy this term.
Thursday 28 October features just one match, but it could be a crucial one in the title race, as Scudetto hopefuls Napoli welcome Bologna to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Neapolitans manager Luciano Spalletti has attempted to take the pressure off his team by insisting that staying at or near the top of the log is not a priority at this moment.
“We know that in order to stay near the top of the table, we must attack every game, try to bring home the maximum points, but without having an obsession about being leaders. That’s not the issue, we just have to take it one game at a time,” said Spalletti, who will be hoping for a three-point haul from the clash with the Rossoblu.
