These 11 spicy shows will make you feel right at home this week
A smidgen of deceit, a pinch of well-versed lies and a teaspoon of good-old fashioned treachery makes for a good dose of local entertainment.
Sometimes one has to lose it all in order to regain the spring in one's step, and our scintillating line-up of local dramas and telenovelas deliver all that and more this week on DStv.
1Magic’s (DStv channel 103) brand-new telenovela premieres on Sunday with veteran actor Patrick Mofokeng (Scandal!) and Thuli Thabethe (Isibaya) leading a strong cast in Lingashoni, a Zulu-titled telenovela meaning “may your good fortune never end”. With all the themes, twists and turns expected from a gripping telenovela, Lingashoni still manages to depict the life of real South Africans in a truly dramatic fashion.
kykNET (DStv channel 144) brings film fans two brand-new Afrikaans films this week. The drama, In Die Begin, airing on Sunday at 20:00, kicks off the night. Jan-Hendrik plans to surprise Bea by proposing to her, but family secrets threaten to derail their happy dreams.
Part of the channel’s Storyfilms series, Op Straat, airing on Friday at 21:00, is a tale of forgiveness and healing and the harrowing suffering created by addiction that can so easily tear a family apart.
Fans of M-Net’s (DStv channel 101) glam telenovela Legacy can look forward to a whole week of new episodes this week. The hit home-grown series recently celebrated its 100th episode and fans won’t want to miss one minute of the blistering drama this week!
As Season 13 of Boer Soek ‘n Vrou makes its way to its conclusion, Thursday’s new episode shows the final day on the farm with the farmers facing some tough decisions on kykNET (DStv channel 144). On the same night, the channel's health show, Gesondheid, prontuit returns for a second season as Dr Rust Theron shares more heart-warming stories of ordinary South Africans who are making history with their medical miracles.
Lingashoni
1Magic’s newest telenovela is the story of a supposedly poverty-stricken farmworker who returns to his former life as a high-flying businessman after recovering from memory loss for over a decade. After witnessing Joburg mayor Robert Nondumo (played by Luzuko Nkqeto from Grassroots) commit a shocking murder, well-off "tenderpreneur" Mandla Cele (Patrick Mofokeng) went on the run, but not before surviving a murder from a close family member, which ultimately led to his devastating memory loss. He’s discovered on a riverbank by Seipati Moeketsi, a farmworker who lives with her two children. And so begins Mandla’s new life until, 10 years later, an incident sparks something in his memory. Also starring Liteboho Molise (Muvhango).

And the winner will be a new Honey star.
