Larger Than Life July on DStv Compact

Small screen, BIG impact!

DStv Compact’s July shows are filled with larger-than-life characters with colossal dreams. It’s Idols Season 18 hopefuls with voices to shake the roof, it’s The Real Housewives Of Cape Town Season 1 with the mother of all Mother City budgets and personalities, it’s hostel hitmen in a life or death war in eHostela Season 3… and in music doccie series Murder Inc Season 1.

Even when we turn our eyes to “ordinary” lives in sibling rivalry drama Isifiso Season 1 or Call The Midwife Season 11, mothers, sisters and lovers are living those big stage, big drama lives. And when you watch, you can live that drama with them.

PS: because you get to see so much more on DStv with Compact, check out our other monthly highlights packages for news about July’s hit series like Pastors' Wives Season 3, Snakes In The City Season 8, Uit Die Slaapkamer Season 1, Fantasy Island Season 1, Gog'Skhotheni Season 1, Pastors' Wives Season 3, and Body Parts Season 1.

Ehostela S3 KV Landscape
eHostela Season 3

This season has an all-new cast and a new setting in a KZN Bergville hostel. Widow KaMabizela (Gcina Nkosi) is out to destroy ruthless gangster Ngwadi (Siyabonga Thwala), who betrayed and murdered his former partner, her husband Mdletshe. Ngwadi is out to take power for himself at the hostel’s criminal underworld of hitmen and drug deals – and when Mdletshe wanted to end the violence, he had to go.

What madness and privilege can the Mother City offer us? You might not know these ladies now, but just wait one episode! Beneath the designer labels, diamonds and mommy blogs, every one of them thinks they’re The Queen B. So, kick back, pour yourself a glass, turn on the TV and imagine you’re so fancy that your hobbies include collecting vintage cars and beekeeping.

Isifiso Season 1

It’s sibling rivalry dialled up to 11. Bazothini (Nelisa Mchunu) is seething with jealousy over her little sister Nobuhle’s (Mbalenhle Mthembu) seemingly perfect life of flashy cars, fancy house and a handsome, indulgent husband. And their mom MaNgobese (Dudzile Ngcobo) can’t stop rubbing salt into that wound. Isifiso shows how it does your head in when you’re never enough… until you lose sight of everything good in your own life.

Call The Midwife Season 11

It’s Easter 1967 at Nonnatus House as the season kicks off with a 60s fashion parade, while Sister Monica Joan and Reggie are unironically excited about the (not yet camp) new Eurovision song contest. This season Shelagh organises a special celebration as the Order Of St Raymond Nonnatus celebrates its 100th anniversary. And a tragic incident leaves Sister Julienne and Dr Turner’s lives on the line at the end of the season.

Murder Inc
Murder Inc Season 1

This five-part docu-series takes us soaring and plunging along with the changes of fortune at the Murder Inc record company. Company mastermind Irv “Gotti” Lorenzo talks about how he founded Murder Inc with his brother Chris after his success at Def Jam Records, and the talent spotting and negotiating behind landing Ja Rule (also a series producer on the show), Ashanti, Jay Z, DMX and Mary J Blige. And just wait till you hear the stories behind the infamous real-life 2003 FBI & NYPD raid (referenced in Ja Rule’s Murder Reigns music video).
