Aaron Molosoi & Coming Out

Local 14 June 2022

Aaron Moloisi is staging a mass LGBTQIA prison break – in Coming Out Season 1!

Aaron Molosoi & Coming Out

Social detectives, this 1 is for you! South African actor and presenter Aaron Moloisi (Madimetja in The Queen) tweeted on Sunday, 12 June 2022, “Privacy (P) means full freedom & endless options to just be. Secrecy (S) comes with limited options, keeping up with the lies, accelerated hypertension & the reveal is often devastating. P = Peace, S = Prison.”

Now Aaron will be helping all sorts of South Africans to escape that prison of secrecy… in the brand new Moja Love (DStv Channel 157) reality series, Coming Out.

South Africa has one of the most extensive constitutional protections of human rights in the world. But there are still communities here, no matter which race, no matter how rich or poor, in which children cut themselves off from love and support rather than telling their families their LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex or Asexual) truth. It’s a choice driven by a lifetime of seeing how these families and communities react to people who are open about loving differently.

Now Aaron is determined to help stitch these families back together. “We are all seeking the same thing as human beings – love and tolerance. It is important for the loved ones to know who you are and co-exist with you regardless of how and who you love,” insists Aaron. “What warms my heart is the love and acceptance of the parents and guardians of the LGBTQI+ community. Society is pleasantly surprising in their need to learn and being accepting of the LGBTQI+ community.” But he warns viewers that while he’s hoping for the best, the path getting there might be a little rocky. So, get ready to take a journey with the likes of Mandla, who’s about to tell his father why he’s been so distant since he moved out of the village where he grew up. And watch as Refilwe unburdens two big secrets to her family when she reveals that she’s already married… to a woman.

As for the host himself, Aaron’s been exciting Mzansi’s curiosity for a while, particularly since October 2020, when he posted a pic on Instagram (since removed) of himself with fellow Moja Love star Innocent Matijane, and the word “finally”. But his true orientation is no secret – Aaron has been an openly TV sexual man for years! “TV will remain my first love. When I grew up, we didn't have a television at home. I had to pay 10c to watch it at a neighbour's house. I have been in television for 20 years,” says Aaron.

Jokes aside, we’ll learn more about Aaron’s views and experiences as he encourages a new person to share in each episode of Coming Out Season 1… And stay turned to DStv for more brilliant LGBTQ+ content throughout Pride Month this June
