10 “treat yourself” movies on DStv Box Office this March

Zootropolis

BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated family friendly animated comedy. Rookie cops Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) the bunny and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) the fox set off on the trail of a mystery after Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan) turns Zootopia upside down. As they explore new parts of town, they uncover buried secrets about the city’s construction 100 years back. But certain powerful animals want the truth to stay buried…along with Nick and Judy, if that’s what it takes.

Marty Supreme

Award-winning sports comedy-drama inspired by the life of table tennis player Marty Reisman (Timothée Chalamet, who’s earned Golden Globe and Critics Choice Best Actor Awards for the role). In the 1950s, Marty works as a New York City shoe salesman while competing on the pro table tennis circuit before stealing to pay his way to the British Open, and embarking on a series of schemes and seductions with his BFF, Wally (Tyler the Creator). Marty Supreme received nine Oscar nominations.

Song Sung Blue

Biographical musical drama inspired by the 2008 documentary of the same name about Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder. During the 1980s alcoholic musician Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman) and impersonator and hairdresser Claire Stengl (Kate Hudson, who received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for the role) fall in love and decide to perform together and go on the road as a “tribute” act. Love takes them through life on the road and a host of family and medical tragedies.

Bugonia

Award-winning, Oscar-nominated black comedy thriller. Conspiracy theorist Teddy Gatz (Jesse Plemons) and his autistic cousin Don (Aidan Delbis) kidnap Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), CEO of Pharmaceutical company Auxolith. In their basement, they shave her, slather her in ointment to stop her from contacting her evil alien species, the Andromedans (who are supposedly trying to kill Earth’s honey bees and enslave humanity), and torture her to make her call off an upcoming Andromedan invasion set to coincide with a lunar eclipse.

David 

Family friendly animated biblical musical based on the Old Testament story of David. The prophet Samuel (Brian Stivale) anoints a young shepherd, musician and poet named David (Phil Wickham) to become the future King of the Jews. The current king, Saul (Adam Michael Gold), takes David into his palace, where he becomes best friends with Saul’s son Joanathan (Mark Jacobson). The film follows David’s battle with Goliath (Kamran Nikhad) and his struggles with Saul, who frames him for attempted murder.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie

Live action-animation based on the Gabby’s Dollhouse kids’ series. Gabby (Laila Lockhart Kraner) is on a road trip with grandma Gigi (Gloria Estefan), but when they’re in Cat Francisco, CatRat (Donovan Patton) accidentally unhitches Gabby’s dollhouse from Gigi’s trailer. A lady named Vera (Kristen Wiig) snaps it up and splits up the Gabby cats, so Gabby and Pandy Paws (Logan Bailey) shrink down, get tiny, and sneak into Vera’s house on a mission to reunite the Gabby cats.

The Housemaid

Thriller based on the book of the same name by Freida McFadden. Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for revoltingly rich Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried) and her “perfect” husband Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) and their daughter Cece (Indiana Elle). But what begins as a dream job in beige suburban bliss quickly unravels into something sinister.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale

The third and final Downton Abbey movie is set in 1930. Lord and Lady Grantham (Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern), Edith (Laura Carmichael) and her husband Bertie (Harry Hadden-Paton) are enjoying the lights of London when Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) upcoming divorce threatens to cause a scandal. Back at Downton there’s more bad news as Cora’s brother Harold (Paul Giamatti) reveals that he lost their mother’s fortune in the 1929 stock market crash, and Mary falls prey to a blackmailer.

Nuremberg

Thrilling drama based on Jack El-Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. This is the true story of the post-World War 2 Nuremberg Trials of the defeated Nazi regime, led by chief prosecutor Robert H. Jackson (Michael Shannon). The film centers on psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek), who has to determine whether high-ranking Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for war crimes. Kelley finds himself in a battle of wits with Hitler’s right-hand man, Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe).

Neo Western thriller centred around political divisions, conspiracy theories, and pandemic-era paranoia in the US. Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal), mayor of Eddington, New Mexico, butts heads with sheriff and conservative conspiracy theorist Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) over lockdowns and mask mandates. Their fight spirals into a political battle as Joe runs for mayor opposite Ted – who wants to lock in as mayor so he can approve a data centre being built in Eddington – spilling violence into the local community.
