February’s 10 most shocking reality series

1. Uthando Nes’thembu

The new season about life inside the Mseleku family – with Musa Mseleku and his (now) five wives – comes after the bombshell revelations from the show’s special, #Uncut: Uthando Nes’Thembu. Season 9 kicks off with tensions running high, as the wives, MaCele, MaYeni,  MaNgwabe and MaKhumalo continue to deal with challenges. Some are still unhappy with Musa bringing MaKhwela, also known as Number Five, into the family. How is she dealing with this rejection, and how long can she hold on?

2. I Blew It

People of Mzansi who turned life-changing financial payouts into chaos share the truth about their choices and how they’re dealing with the aftermath. Meanwhile, 59‑year‑old Cebisile spent her R2.1 million Road Accident Fund payout on property and cars, only to lose it all chasing the luxe life.

3. Family Affairs

Secret affairs come to light in this explosive series as host and award-winning actress Sannah Mchunu explores how infidelity and incest are tearing South African families apart. Each episode exposes the emotional fallout, conflict, and heartbreak caused by secret relationships and betrayal within the family circle. But revealing the truth can also be the first step on a difficult path toward forgiveness and healing, and holding those who use their power to abuse and violate children accountable.

4. Ekhaya

When home becomes a battlefield and evictions loom, Ekhaya is here to work through the details, get to grips with the legal documentation, and ensure that the rightful owners get what’s theirs … or shares. But a home is more than four walls and a plot of land, so aside from figuring out what’s right, Ekhaya’s mediators, and the series’ new host, also aim to emphasise what’s fair, restore peace, address misunderstandings, and dodge punches as they rebuild relationships within families.

5. Face 2 Face

Love triangles meet their match as host Sipho “Alphi” Mkhwanazi sits down with couples and their relationship’s “third wheel”. What happens when the father of your child promises to marry another woman behind your back, or when you suspect that the affair your partner swore was over is still going on, on the road to your wedding day?

6. Mamazala 

When in-laws behave like outlaws, Mamazala host Dingaan Mokebe steps in (with his security team) to hear all sides of the story, and to help people to reach a peaceful resolution. This isn’t about who took granddad’s bible. We’ve seen a woman get accused of murdering her husband and children for insurance money, physical violence and domestic abuse, and, all too often, in-laws trying to kick a widow out to lay claim to a “family” house, furniture and cars.

7. X-Repo

Does someone have your stuff and they won’t give it back? You don’t need a lawyer. 8. Ufelani? Mob Justice

This shocking series investigates real cases of community retaliation, as actors recreate often deadly scenes of violence described by survivors, their families, and friends. Find out how neighbours dealt with a cheese boy who stole from them to maintain his lifestyle, or an outcast who tried to help himself when an old ladies’ stokvel cashed out. But not all suspects are guilty, and Mob Justice exposes the dangers, emotions, and consequences of taking the law into your own hands.

9. Utatakho

The Real Housewives of Durban star Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco is this season’s new host. She’ll guide our emotional journey as people who grew up with questions about their biological fathers seek answers, closure and, in some cases, reconciliation. It’s not just a moral or financial (or in some cases, medical) issue; this season, we see what happens when a child grows up convinced that they’re carrying the wrong surname and feels disconnected from their ancestors.

10. Spinza Aside

This 13-episode reality series follows eight alcoholics (two couples and four individuals) on their journey towards sobriety. They’ll spend three weeks in the show’s rehabilitation bootcamp, where they’ll face a series of challenges that’ll set them up for coping with sober life. They’ll also have expert help when confronting the past and figuring out why alcohol plays such a damaging role in their lives. And as sobriety settles in, we’ll see couples face the dysfunction in their relationships, too.
