TV lovers, however you’re watching, DStv has an app to make your experience faster, more efficient, more flexible, and more enjoyable. With the MyDStv, DStv, Showmax and SuperSport apps, leaving your house behind doesn’t mean having to leave your entertainment behind, too.
Be a decoder genius with the MyDStv app
With the MyDStv app on your phone or tablet, you can do everything including watching your favourite shows with the Watch Now function (by linking to the DStv app). Or, find the perfect show to watch next with the Content Recommendation functionality contained within the app. The homescreen will allow you to check out all the latest news and information about new shows coming to DStv without even logging in.
Once a show catches your eye, you can plan your viewing with the TV guide right in the app – which means you don’t have to interrupt anyone’s viewing to do that.
Holiday? Hooray!
On the move? The MyDStv app allows you to manage all your DStv viewing, no matter where you are. The Manage Holiday Home function and easy step-by-step guide will help you to see all the TV you want to see in a strange house, on a decoder you’ve never used before.
Admin whizz
With the MyDStv app, you can update your details, manage current decoders, name your decoders so you can identify them easily and add new decoders. You can view and pay bills, check up on your transaction history and statements, and add decoder insurance for when load shedding does its worst. There’s even a How To Pay guide for newcomers that’ll step you through the process.

You can opt to have notifications and in-app messages sent to your MyDStv app so that you can see all the latest news.

Watch on the go with the DStv app
As a DStv customer, while the MyDStv app allows you to make the most of your decoder, the DStv app will let you explore the full range of DStv possibilities open to you with a Wi-Fi or internet connection. If you’re in a friend’s house, a holiday house or hotel with a Wi-Fi and internet connection, you can use the DStv app to watch the same DStv channels and content online as you do on your decoder back home. TV on your own time with Showmax
Showmax offers more entertainment and choice on the move! Download Showmax on your smart device to stream local and international shows and movies at your convenience.
The Showmax app allows you to stream or download TV shows and movies on a smartphone, tablet, smart TV or media player. There’s a huge back-catalogue of local and international shows available on Showmax, including new local soaps like Gomora, Legacy and Isono – available all the way from episode 1 – as well as the classics like Binnelanders, which is up on Showmax from episode 1, season 1, all the way up to the current season’s most recent episode. There are all the local dramas you love (including ones you missed because you were working or obsessed with another show at the time) in a wide range of languages, as well as shows that have never been broadcast on South African TV available exclusively on Showmax, and top-quality collections of programming from studios like HBO and Adult Swim.
As a DStv customers, you could pay even less (or nothing at all!) for Showmax when you add Showmax to your DStv bill. DStv Premium customers get Showmax for free, while DStv Compact Plus, Compact, Family and Access customers only pay half price for Showmax.
Here’s how you can add Showmax to your DStv account:
- Go to Showmax.com
- Create a Showmax account with your emailaddress
- Create a password
- Choose "DStv add to account" as your payment method
Like the DStv app, Showmax allows you to set up as many as five individual family member profiles. The app remembers where each person is in their viewing (even if you’re watching the same show) and recommends new shows according to your viewing patterns. And with the Showmax app, you can make personalised Watch Lists of the show’s you’ve spotted that you want to watch after you’ve finished the latest series you’re busy with.
A single Showmax subscription allows you to stream two different shows on two different devices simultaneously, in different rooms, or in totally different locations. You can also access Showmax from the web browser on your laptop or PC.
And if you want to see if on the bigscreen, with a Google Cast/Chromecast receiver, you can stream shows from your phone or tablet to your bigscreen TV.
With the cap bandwidth function contained within the Showmax app, you can limit the amount of data used per hour. And while Showmax is a streaming service, it also allows you to download up to 25 movies or episodes of series and store them for a limited time to watch while you’re away from an internet connection.

Sport is back in action all over the globe now, and there’s never been a better time to download the SuperSport app to keep track of all the sports you love.
