When his older brother passed away, Siyabonga’s father ordered him to practise ukungenwa: to marry his brother’s widow and adopt their children. Now Siya is trying to make life work with his late brother’s wife who lives in rural KZN, while trying to appease his current partner with whom he shares a life within Johannesburg. Siya claims that he is not attracted to his second wife but there are several things about their relationship that he’s hiding.

MaMkhize

MaMkhize is Siya’s first wife, who lives with him in Johannesburg. They have a son together. Siybaonga wasn’t upfront with her about his father’s orders and in this series, we’ll watch as she finally finds out what’s going on – not from Siya himself, but from a member of his family. We will watch her struggle to accept the second wife in her marriage and share in her disappointment and sense of betrayal, forced into a lifestyle not of her choosing.

MamChunu

Through the series, though, MamChunu reveals that there is already far more to her relationship with Siya than he admits. According to MamChunu, she and Siya had been in a romantic relationship in the past and already had children together before his brother’s death. She doesn’t like the way that Siya has been hiding and silencing her, and longs to claim her place at his side as his second wife.
