Who’s who

Awalmir Karimi (Adhir Kalyan)

A Muslim interpreter who was born in Kandahar and moved to Kabul. After assisting the US Military during their campaign in Helmand Province, he moves to the US on a special visa and lives in Riley’s garage as he adjusts to his new country, having been forced to leave his own family behind.

Riley Dugan (Parker Young)

A Marine combat veteran who’s struggling to re-adjust to civilian life with his family in Ohio while dealing with PTSD and a failed marriage thanks to his partying, adrenaline junkie lifestyle and being an unreliable father.

Lizzie Dugan (Elizabeth Alderfer)

Riley’s little sister who’s been off balance ever since she lost her military fiancé in action. She still lives at home with their dad and focuses her time on drinking, art and festivals.

Vanessa (Kelli Goss)

Riley’s estranged wife, and protective mother of their young daughter, Hazel (Farrah Mackenzie). Riley cheated on Vanessa, and then accused her of cheating on him with her (then) platonic friend, Freddy (Brian Thomas Smith). According to Al, their kid might be a bit spoilt.

Art Dugan (Dean Norris)

Riley’s widowed father is a military veteran himself. Gruff but sympathetic, he now runs a construction company.

About the Show

In this comedy, an Afghani interpreter Awalmir (Adhir Kalyan) moves to the US with the Marine he assisted, Riley (Parker Young). Riley is struggling to re-adjust to civilian life, his little sister growing up, and the demise of his marriage with his wife, Vanessa (Kelli Goss), who’s been raising their daughter, Hazel, alone.
