African Stars Shine Bright in 2024 MTV EMA Nominations

The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) are gearing up for an unforgettable night, with African artists making a significant impact. Afrobeats sensations Ayra Starr from Nigeria and South Africa’s Tyla are leading the African contingent, each securing four nominations in major categories. Both artists are nominated for "Best New," "Best Afrobeats," "Best African Act," and additional individual categories. This recognition underscores their incredible achievements and the global rise of Afrobeats and African music.

Celebrating African Talent

In addition to Ayra Starr and Tyla, other African powerhouses, including Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, and Tems, are up for the prestigious "Best Afrobeats" award. Asake, alongside Diamond Platnumz, DBN Gogo, and TitoM & Yuppe, is also in the running for "Best African Act," further showcasing the continent’s dynamic and influential presence on the global music stage.

A Star-Studded Line-Up

International superstar Taylor Swift leads the overall nominations with seven nods, including top categories like “Best Artist” and “Best Video.” Other global icons such as Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter follow with five nominations each. First-time nominees Ayra Starr and Tyla are making waves with four nominations each, alongside big names like Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, and LISA.

The highly anticipated event will feature a star-studded line-up of performances and presenters. Already confirmed to perform are global sensations and industry titans who will grace the stage live from Manchester. Presenters will include notable names such as Gavin Rossdale of Bush, actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Lucien Laviscount.

Rita Ora to Host for a Record Third Time

MTV recently announced that international pop icon Rita Ora will return to host the 2024 MTV EMAs, marking her third time as the host—making her the first artist ever to do so. Ora, known for her infectious energy and global hits, shared her excitement: “I’m over the moon that I get to be back with my MTV family hosting the EMAs for the third time! This year’s show in Manchester is going to be absolutely incredible!”

Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Paramount, added, “Rita’s undeniable talent and charisma will elevate the show to new heights, making it an unforgettable experience for fans worldwide.”

How to Watch and Vote

The 2024 MTV EMAs will be broadcast live from Manchester’s Co-op Live on MTV (DStv Channel 130 / GOtv Channel 41/141) in over 150 countries on Sunday, 10 November 2024, at 21:00 CAT. Fans can vote for their favorite artists in categories like “Best Song,” “Best Artist,” and “Best Collaboration” at www.mtvema.com until 00:00 CAT on November 6. Winners in the “Biggest Fans” category will be decided later via social media.
