From an African perspective, the focus will fall on Morocco, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali, as they all fight for qualification to the knockout stage.
Morocco will be in action on Monday 13 November and Thursday 16 November as they tackle Group A rivals Ecuador and hosts Indonesia respectively.
“We showed that we are strongly present. We just need to adapt to this atmosphere and work to deal intelligently with the match,” said Atlas Lions coach Said Chiba, following their opening 2-0 triumph over Panama.
Mali, drawn in Group B, will come up against Spain (13 November) and Canada (16 November) as they look to build on their impressive 3-0 triumph over Uzbekistan.
“It was a good start to the tournament, I am very proud of the players,” said Eagles coach Mamadou Traore. “But we have areas we can improve on, and we will look to build on what we have shown so far.”
In Group D, Senegal will be in action on Tuesday 14 November and Friday 17 November against Poland and Japan respectively.
“As for us, our U-17 World Cup history is fairly recent, but it’s thanks to this type of tournament that we’re growing in experience,” said Teranga Lions coach Serigne Saliou Dia.
“That experience will be of great value to the players when they represent the U-20s, U-23s or senior team. We want our young players to continue their footballing apprenticeship at this tournament.”
Finally, Burkina Faso will be in Group E action against the United States (Wednesday 15 November) and Korea Republic (Saturday 18 November), with coach Brahima Traore hoping his team can emulate the class of 2001, which finished third at that year’s U-17 World Cup.
“The people of Burkina Faso still remember that global campaign, and our fans want to see a repeat of that performance by us, or even something better,” said Traore. “The country’s performances during the 2001 edition serve as an example to follow and are a source of motivation.”
