African streaming giant Showmax is gearing up to debut its first Original docuseries in Kenya, Nilichoma, on May 28. This 10-part series showcases the dramatic tales of prominent Kenyan figures such as comedian JB Masanduku and cricket legend Maurice Odumbe, who experienced sudden financial success only to lose it all in the end.
Produced by Ahmed Deen and Isaya Evans of Café Luna Films, Nilichoma offers a riveting exploration of the rise and fall of those who once enjoyed significant wealth. “Nilichoma is a collection of dreams and nightmares, revealing the harsh lessons learned from hitting rock bottom,” says Deen. The series promises a powerful emotional journey through personal stories, interviews, archival footage, and re-enactments, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own lives. It also features other notable personalities, including David Ogot, son of esteemed author and politician Grace Ogot, and former Samburu millionaire Gabriel Lengishili. Joining Showmax’s diverse May lineup in Kenya, Nilichoma complements other Originals like The Real Housewives of Nairobi Season 2, the dramedy Untying Kantai, and the comedy-drama Big Girl Small World.
