When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future ~ Queen Elizabeth
Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at Balmoral Castle on her Scottish estate. The longest-serving monarch in the history of the United Kingdom. Her death marks the end of one of the most successful reigns in any contemporary monarchy.
It was on her first official overseas visit, to South Africa in 1947, that the future Queen pledged in a radio broadcast to devote her life to the service of her people, “whether it be long or short”. She fulfilled that vow and became an enduring symbol of identity.
Prince Charles spoke to the crowd during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee concert in front of Buckingham Palace in London on June 4, 2022, he said “Your majesty, you have been with us in difficult times. And you bring us together to celebrate moments of pride, joy, and happiness. You have met with us and talked to us. You laugh and cry with us, and most importantly, you have been there for us, for these last 70 years. You pledged to serve your whole life – you continue to deliver. That is why we are here. On another day of the celebrations, he said “My papa would have enjoyed the show and joined us wholeheartedly in celebrating all you continue to do for your country and your people. You continue to make history”. Indeed, she has. She will be remembered and cherished by her people or a long time to come.
Here’s to the very symbol of duty, grace, intelligence, discipline, and dignity.
