Eminem returns for show opening performance at 2024 “VMAs” only on DStv

Global rap icon Eminem will open the 2024 VMAs live on Wednesday, 12 September, at 2am CAT on MTV (DStv channel 130) from New York’s UBS Arena. Eminem, a 15-time GRAMMY winner and one of the best-selling musicians of the 21st century, will perform the first TV show set from his recently released 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady. This performance marks his return to the VMAs stage, where he previously opened the show in 2010 with a powerful rendition of "Not Afraid" and a memorable duet with Rihanna on "Love the Way You Lie."

This year, Eminem is nominated for eight awards, including "Video of the Year," "Best Hip-Hop," "Song of the Summer" (Presented by Hilton), and "VMAs Most Iconic Performance" for his 2000 medley of "Real Slim Shady" and "The Way I Am." With these nominations, he is poised to further solidify his status as the most celebrated male artist in VMAs history. Currently holding the record for the most wins by a rap artist, Eminem is also the second-most nominated artist of all time, trailing only Madonna.

The 2024 VMAs will also feature Megan Thee Stallion as both host and performer, and a lineup of global superstars including Anitta, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Halsey, and Katy Perry, who will receive the Video Vanguard Award and perform a career-spanning medley. The event will be graced by a diverse group of presenters such as Addison Rae, Cyndi Lauper, DJ Khaled, Lil Nas X, and Paris Hilton. With the addition of social categories, Taylor Swift leads this year’s nominations, followed by Post Malone, Eminem, and other prominent artists.
